Christian Mansell Joins British F4 With Carlin

Carlin have announced Christian Mansell will join their F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost line-up ahead of the 2020 season.

The Australian racer makes his full-time switch to single-seaters with the reigning champions following a promising karting career at home and in Europe, including campaigns in the FIA Karting European Championship, WSK Euro Series and the Australian Karting Championship.

The 14-year old also took part in the Australian F4 Championship’s two visits to Phillip Island in 2019, taking five top-eight finishes, including a best result of fourth.

He took part in the Ford EcoBoost-powered series’ inaugural scholarship at Silverstone last November with Trevor Carlin’s outfit, and has continued to test since in preparation for a full-season assault in 2020.

In joining British F4, Mansell will also benefit from capacity trackside crowds – usually in excess of 30,000 spectators – along with live, free-to-air television coverage on ITV4 and an abundance of thrilling, wheel-to-wheel action.

The opening round of the 2020 campaign takes place at Donington Park, Leicestershire, over the weekend of 28-29 March.

“The first impression you have of Carlin both in terms of the workshop and past achievements and drivers is that it’s clearly a good environment,” said Mansell.

“I tested with a few other teams, but this Carlin car feels really good to me and I feel like it really suits my driving style.  You can’t just have a good car though, everything around you has to feel right.

“I think it’s really important to feel comfortable in an environment. You’ve got to spend the year with these guys; you have to have a good connection. Everyone gets on so well here but at the same time everyone is super serious about the job they have to do.

“I’m really looking forward to the season ahead.”

Team Principal Trevor Carlin underlined his belief in Mansell’s ability and is looking ahead to the new season with optimism as his outfit look to maintain their 100 percent record of Drivers titles.

“Christian is very young, but has exactly the right attitude,” explained Carlin.

“He is ready to learn and listen and applies that on track in a very mature way, despite his young age.

“He’s developed very well during winter testing and I’m looking forward to seeing his potential unfold in the season ahead.”
